A MESSAGE FROM PARK PRESIDENT MICKEY HENDRICKSON
Scott Carrigan Park is a very special baseball park, offering a warmth and camaraderie that’s unique. It also reflects the legacy of a very special boy, whose love for the park and the game it hosted was tragically cut short. SC is not just about a grand game, it’s about much more- our families. It’s a place where deep friendships are made between all as our children grow and move up the ranks. It’s also about our extremely important volunteers, without whom the league could not survive. The contributions offered by all of us ensure a special heritage for our children, one that will be passed from generation to generation.
I got my start playing organized baseball at Fisher Park, back when our park was still known as Clyatt Park. I played All-Stars at Clyatt and move up to playing high school ball at Lake Weir. Back when I played, home plate at Clyatt was still next to 17th Street and the field faced the opposite direction! My son Kaleb is in Minors and my youngest Brayden will start with Rookies next year. I am also a coach amongst the many other hats I wear at the park.
We have a great Board and a great bunch of volunteers and I am extremely excited about our future. Last year, the city did a major renovation at the field at Tuscawilla Park and has given us the option to incorporate it in our league. This gave us a much-needed second field for both practices and games. During the summer, the city also added new digouts and bleachers to Tuscawilla. SC continues to grow in popularity and the addition of Tuscawilla will only enhance that. Many were very generous in SC fundraising and we were able to fund new batting cage netting and pitching bullpens at SC.
Now we enter an even more exciting period for SC baseball, with the City set to begin major renovations on SC Field by late spring. The entire field will be redone with new dugouts and covered bleachers added plus other improvements. SC Baseball will be Cal Ripken ball at its finest !
I am very excited for the future of Carrigan. The mix of our directors, coaches, volunteers, and families plus now TWO quality fields will make Scott Carrigan one very special place for your children to play baseball in 2012.
If you have enjoyed SC Baseball yet, come join us and see what all the fun is about. Both you and your entire family will enjoy it !
